Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a planisphere made especially for the Southern Hemisphere and find the Southern Cross on it. Be sure to locate "The Pointers" (alpha and beta Centauri) as well.

    • 2

Take your planisphere with you when you go outside so you have a map to the night sky.

    • 3

      Face south.

    • 4

Find "The Pointers." These two stars lie to the west of the Southern Cross and point east-the way to the constellation.

    • 5

Trace a line from the pointers to the top of the Southern Cross, the star Gacrux.

    • 6

Find the other three stars surrounding Gacrux in the form of a cross. The star Acrux makes up the base of the cross.
