Things You'll Need
Instructions
Remove the top and label from a 2-liter soda bottle. Wash and dry it thoroughly. Choose a clear soda bottle so you can see whatever you catch.
Cut along the circumference of the soda bottle. Begin the cut 4 inches from the top of the bottle and work your way around until you meet at the starting cut. You know have two separate pieces.
Turn the top section of bottle upside down. Insert the top portion of the soda bottle into the bottom portion. The neck of the bottle should now be in the center of the bottom portion of bottle.
Line up the cut section of the top bottle with the cut section of the bottom bottle. Staple the two pieces of the soda bottle together approximately 1/2 inch from the cut sections. Place five staples around the circumference of the bottle.
Punch a hole in the side of the soda bottle, approximately 1 inch down from the line of staples. Punch another hole on the opposite side of the first hole. Make sure the holes go through both layers of plastic.
Cut a piece of string to approximately 10 inches in length. Insert one end of the string into the first hole. Tie a knot to hold the string in place. Insert the other end of the string into the second hole. Tie a knot to create the handle.
Place a sugary substance, such as candy or a few tablespoons of juice, into the soda bottle. Hang the bug catcher on a tree limb and watch as your bug catcher attracts various insects. Keep your bugs trapped by placing a cotton ball into the neck of the bottle.
