Single Spider Removal
Identify the spider if possible. At a minimum, know the venomous spiders that are harmful to humans found in your area. If it is a dangerous spider, call an exterminator.
Place a large mason jar behind the spider on a web and close the lid quickly. The spider will fall into the mason jar and you can then take it outside without harming the spider.
Place a large, square piece of cardboard on the floor in front of a spider that is not in a web. Place the mason jar behind the spider and gently prod it toward the cardboard. Once the spider climbs on, place the mason jar over the spider. Keeping the cardboard tight against the top of the mason jar, lift upright and place the lid on the mason jar.
Release the spider far away from your home by opening the lid to the mason jar and turning it upside down on the ground. Once the spider finds its way to the bottom, then lay the jar on its side. The spider will find its way out.
Spider Infestations
Identify the types of spiders in your home. If you have dangerous spiders, contact a professional right away. If you are not sure, assume they are dangerous. If the spiders are harmless, then you may proceed with removal.
Vacuum every baseboard, corner and hidden area you can find. When you are infested, there is no point in trying to save the spiders. Vacuum as many up as possible in this manner and do so regularly or they will come back. Remove webs and egg sacs as well.
Eliminate all other insects you encounter the same way. The primary reason that spiders invade homes is to follow food sources. If you have a spider problem, you certainly have an insect problem as well.
Remove all excess junk from your home. The more hiding spots you provide for spiders, the larger their numbers will grow. Keep clutter to a minimum and eliminate the areas they need to expand.
Go outside and remove clutter from around the foundation. Mow your grass low around these areas and ensure wood piles are located far away from your home.
