Repellents for Indian Moths

Indian moths are one of the most common food pests in the home. They make their way into the home when food is brought in, often from the grocery store. Once in, they can multiply quickly and be difficult to get rid of. There are products and methods that can be used to eliminate a moth infestation quickly and without harm to the people or pets in the house.
  1. Room Foggers

    • Room foggers are sprays that contain insecticide that work well for killing moths in large quantities. Though the foggers effectively kill moths that are present, they do not affect moths that hatch later on.

    Pheromone Traps

    • Pheromone traps set out in the infested areas will attract moths into the diamond shaped traps and catch them on the sticky surface. The traps are safe to use within the home but because the pheromone is a male sex attractant, the female moths may not be as easily lured in. The traps can help to determine if you have the infestation under control by monitoring the amount of male moths that enter.

    Insect Growth Regulators

    • Insect growth regulators (IGRs) work well when combined with another method such as pheromone traps or room foggers. While the other two products work to eliminate adult Indian moths, IGRs target moths in their larval phase, killing them before they are able to hatch and fly. The product can be applied in cracks and crevices or used as a surface product near infested areas. The product is safe around humans and pets.

    Vacuum

    • Moths can thrive in moist, carpeted areas and vacuuming regularly will help to reduce the amount of moisture in the carpet. Regular vacuuming will also help to reduce the amount of crumbs, hair from both humans and pets and dead insects. Finally, vacuuming can actually suck up adult moths and larvae that you may not be able to easily see. Be sure to vacuum right up to baseboards and in corners as well.
