How to Attract Insects at Night

Attracting insects may seem like an unusual thing to do, but there are a few reasons why people would want to lure them. Attracting insects at night is a technique that works particularly well to get bugs out of your home. Others want to attract beneficial bugs for their garden or they want to photograph the bugs. Whatever the reason, there are some easy tricks to get those insects swarming to wherever you want them.

Flashlight or lantern
Flowers

  Place a flashlight or lantern outside. Turn it on when it is dark. You will have little success attracting insects until the sun is completely down.

  Turn off all other lights around your home. Place the light on the ground if you want to attract both flying insects and those that crawl on the ground.

  Set some flowers such as inflorescences in front of the light, though this may not be necessary. You could receive a higher number of pollinators with the help of flowers.
