Place the sheet of plywood on a stable surface and use a tape measure to measure 12 inches along the side of the wood. Mark this point with a pencil.
Measure another 12 inches starting at the marked point and mark this point again. Measure 10 inches from this point and then a final 10 inches and mark both points with a pencil.
Draw 8-inch vertical lines from each marked point and connect the 8-inch lines with a squared line.
Use the guidance lines to cut out each strip of wood using a circular saw. There should be two 8-by-12 strips and two 8-by-10 strips. Set these strips aside. These will make the side frames of the beehive.
Measure and cut out two 12-by-12 panels in the same fashion as above. These strips of wood will make the top and bottom panels of the beehive.
Insert one of the 8-by-12 strips of wood into a vise and tighten. Place the other 8-by-12 strip against the side of the viced wood to create a 90-degree angle. Hammer 2-inch nails through the side of one piece and into the end of the other to secure them together. Repeat with the other two 8-by-12 pieces.
Fit the two 90-degree angle pieces together to form a square box shape. Hammer the corners together with two equally spaced 1-1/2-inch nails.
Position one of the base pieces over the square frame and hammer nails through the base and into the side panels approximately 2 inches around the perimeter.
Cut out two pieces of wood 1-by-3 inches long.
Measure 1 inch from each side of one of the top corners of the box. Mark with the point with a pencil.
Position one of the 1-by-3 inches of wood at the marked corner. Make sure that the long side of the small piece of wood is parallel to the outer edge of the box. Hammer two equally spaced 1-1/2-inch nails through the piece of wood and into the panel of the box.
Repeat Step 11 with the other small piece of wood on the opposite corner. These pieces will act as a stopper, to hold the lid of the beehive in place without securing it fully.
Mark a point in the center of the top and bottom panel of the box. Make sure these points are roughly in line with each other.
Drill a 1-inch hole at the center point on both marked panels of the box for the bees to enter and exit.
Paint the box a bright color such as white, yellow or orange to attract bees. Allow to dry.
Position the box in a place where you want to attract bees.
