How Do I Catch a Walking Stick?

Walking sticks are insects that look like sticks and leaves. They can grow up to 12 inches long, and some walking sticks have wings. They are commonly found between July and November. They like to be on tree trunks and plants. They move very slowly and can stay in one place without moving for hours. Catching a walking stick requires patience and good eyes since they blend in so well with their surroundings.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk around looking at tree trunks and on plants for the walking stick. Look carefully, because they can remain still for hours. They also blend in with their surroundings.

    • 2

Approach the walking stick slowly once you have located it.

    • 3

Get close to the walking stick and swing your net over it. Have a plastic container that has a tight lid -- but provides ventilation -- ready to place your walking stick in.
