How to Heat Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap keeps items covered and closed, such as medicine bottles, soap bars and cosmetics. When you're making your own products, regardless of what they are, you can easily apply shrink wrap to them to protect and distribute them safely. Heating shrink wrap to keep it place is not difficult and requires only the use of household materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the shrink wrap over the item you want to shrink it to, using an appropriately sized piece of wrap. For instance, if you're covering a tube of homemade lip balm, use a strip of shrink wrap measuring 3 inches long by 1-1/4 inches wide.

    • 2

Plug in your hairdryer and set it to the hot setting if it is a dual-setting device. Remove the diffuser if it has one on its nozzle.

    • 3

Aim the coiled end of the hairdryer about 3 inches from the shrink wrap's surface and then turn on the hairdryer.

    • 4

Hold the hairdryer in place for 30 seconds and then move to the other side of the wrapped item. As you do this, the heat will distribute around the thin, film-like plastic, which will shrink snugly to the item it is wrapping.
