Yellow Jacket
The yellow jacket is the the most commonly recognized insect with a yellow body and black stripes. Often mistaken for bees, yellow jackets are actually a form of wasp.
Cucumber Beetle
There are two species of cucumber beetle: both have yellow bodies, while one has black stripes that run the length of its body and the other has black spots. They are called cucumber beetles because they are often found on the leaves of cucumber, squash and melon plants.
American Bumblee and Golden Northern Bumblebee
These bumblebees are common throughout most of the United States and are very similar in appearance. They both have fuzzy yellow bodies with one to three black stripes. The difference between the two is that the American bumblebee is larger.
Colorado Potato Beetle
The Colorado potato beetle is a yellow beetle with 10 black stripes going down the length of the back. Despite the name, they aren't exclusive to Colorado, but can be found in other areas of the U.S. and throughout Europe. Females can lay up to 800 eggs making them a serious pest. The also feeds on eggplant and tomatoes.
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Tails that resemble the tail feathers of swallows is what gives swallowtails their name. The eastern tiger swallowtail is a bright yellow butterfly with black stripes.
