How to Kill Spider Mites on a Majesty Palm

Majesty palms are evergreen palm trees. They can be grown outside or indoors as container houseplants. Indoor cultivation is difficult, however, because majesty palms are prone to spider mites. Spider mites are common plant pests that can cause serious damage if left untreated. They injure the plant while feeding and can cause leaves to have small, discolored brown areas on the surface. If you discover spider mites on your majesty palm, treat it immediately before an infestation occurs.

Instructions

    • 1

Isolate your majesty palm from other plants in your home. This will keep the spider mites from infesting your healthy plants. Do not move your palm back until you are sure the spider mites are completely gone.

    • 2

Kill spider mites with insecticidal soap. Fill a spray bottle with water and add 2 teaspoons of dish soap. Mix it well and spray every part of the majesty palm plant.

    • 3

Remove any dead or infested leaves. Put them in a trash bag and discard them in an outside trash container.

    • 4

Spray a forceful stream of water on your palm about once a week to remove spider mites. The water will physically remove the mites without hurting your plant.

    • 5

Inspect your majesty palm often for spider mites and other pests. Look underneath leaves and in the soil where spider mites like to hide.
