How to Kill Spider Mites on Croton

Crotons are colorful shrubs that can reach a height of 5 to 6 feet. Spider mites are common pests of the croton plant that can cause serious damage or stress. The mites injure the plant as they feed on sap and bruise the cells with their tiny mouth parts. Common symptoms of a spider mite infestation include discoloration and scorched leaves. If you notice any of these signs on your croton plant, treat it immediately before even more serious damage occurs.

  Isolate your croton plant from your other plants to prevent the bugs from spreading. Do not bring it around other plants until you are sure the mites are gone.

  Apply a miticide or acaricides to infected leaves and stalks. They are specifically developed for spider mite control. You can find them at your local garden supply store.

  Hose your croton plant periodically with a forceful jet of water. This physically removes and kills spider mites on your plant.

  Trim and remove heavily infested leaves and place them in a bag. Discard the bag in an outside trash container.

  Inspect your croton plant often for spider mites. Early detection is important to ensure no damage occurs to your plant.
