Homemade Remedy to Kill Roaches

Roaches are insects that thrive in dark, moist places. They can become pests when they find their way inside your home. Roaches can enter through tiny cracks and crevices in doors, windows or your house's foundation. Roaches are riddled with germs and can contaminate food with their waste and saliva secretions. If you're worried about using poisonous pesticides to treat your roach problem, baking soda is a safe, homemade solution that effectively kills roaches.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine equal parts baking soda and sugar in a bowl. Stir together and fill milk jug lids with the solution.

    • 2

Place the jug lids containing the baking soda and sugar behind appliances or closets. Fill other jug lids with water and place them near the bait. Place several pairs around the house where you suspect roaches are hiding.

    • 3

Refill the pairs of jug lids holding bait and water as needed. Once the roach eats the baking soda, it then drinks the water, which causes its stomach to expand and explode.

    • 4

Prevent roaches from coming into your home. Caulk any cracks and crevices around widows, doorways, pipes or any other entry points into your home.

    • 5

Practice proper sanitation to keep roaches away. Don't leave food out uncovered overnight and clean your home on a regular basis, especially the kitchen and bathrooms.
