Bee Costumes
A costume contest can be a funny way to learn about how bees look and their ways. Have kids work at home with their parents making bee costumes, and then they can wear them to school. You can vote on whose is the best and enjoy running around the playground, buzzing with the kids.
Construction Paper Bee
Make a fun crafts bee out of construction paper or crafts foam. Color and paste the body with black and yellow stripes, then add a little bumblebee stinger. You can also use wax paper to make realistic bee wings, too.
Bee Bookmark
Make a bookmark for kids to use while they're reading up on bees. You can easily make a bookmark by painting a Popsicle stick or thin piece of poster board with yellow and black stripes. Add a yellow crafts poof ball at the top and glue on googly eyes, then glue tiny white construction paper wings onto the back of your poofy yellow ball.
Bee Field Trip
Take your preschoolers on a fun field trip to a beekeeping farm. Search your local yellow pages to see if there is a beekeeper that does tours. This will make for a fun learning trip. You can also take kids to a local natural history museum and tour the insect section.
Bee Pinata
Another bee craft, which focuses on the homes of bees, is making a bee hive pinata. Blow up a balloon and cover it in papier mache. When it dries, cut a hole to fill with candy and close it up with string. Kids will enjoy learning about how bees live, and at the end they'll get a sweet candy treat to boot.
