Things You'll Need
Instructions
Spray your plant with a brisk water spray. Aphids, mites and other pests can often be removed this way. The water is gentle enough to not harm the plant but strong enough to remove the pests.
Buy pressurized insecticide spray. This is a ready-to-use spray, approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, that comes in pressurized cans with push-button sprayer tops. You can find them at your local garden supply store.
Make your own homemade insecticide spray. Pour a qt. of water into a spray bottle and add 2 tbsp. of dish soap. Close the bottle and mix the solution together and spray it on your house plants. The soapy water will kill any bugs while coating your plants with a thin film that will deter future pests.
Inspect your plants regularly for signs of pests. If a plant begins to show signs of infestation, isolate it immediately from your other plants in case it's contagious. Leave it isolated until you learn its condition.
Use horticultural spray oil on your house plants. These oils are diluted sprays of oils and are very effective insecticides for plants. The oils are highly refined and smother the developing larvae on the plant. This oil also protects against viral diseases and many types of fungus. It is safe to use on your plants as often as needed because of its low toxicity level.
