Defense
When a grasshopper feels threatened or someone tries to handle it, the insect will excrete what resembles a brown juice from its mouth. This is sometimes called "tobacco juice."
Sight &Sound
Grasshoppers have five eyes, with two large compound eyes and three smaller eyes. This allows the insect to see in many directions and makes it difficult for a person to grab one. Grasshoppers do not have ears.

Some types of grasshoppers have the ability to jump a length equivalent to 20 times the length of their own bodies.

People have been known to eat grasshoppers dipped in chocolate, which is considered to be a delicacy. Grasshoppers are said to be low in fat and high in protein.
