How to Bait Frozen Anchovies

Anchovies, whether they're frozen or fresh, make excellent fishing bait for both freshwater and saltwater outings. Canned frozen anchovies also provide fishing hobbyists with highly scented bait that can be frozen to adhere to the hooks better. Baiting a frozen anchovy on a fishing hook only takes a minute or two, and can make it possible for you to catch an amazing variety of fish.

Instructions

    • 1

Pry open the can of anchovies by pulling on the ring.

    • 2

Tear off a stiff, frozen anchovy. If the fish breaks, just gather the largest chunks of the anchovy to use.

    • 3

Stuff the hook through the center of the anchovy, sliding the baitfish through the hook and over the barbed end.

    • 4

Fold the head or tail end of the anchovy over the point of the hook and push it through to secure the fish onto the hook.

    • 5

Make a practice cast with your rod and reel. Drag the line and reel it in to make sure the anchovy is secure.
