Size and Color
The Jerusalem cricket can grow to only 2 inches long with a large "humanoid" head. The head, thorax and legs are usually amber-yellow colored.
Legs
Unlike other members of the cricket family the Jerusalem has developed stout, spiny legs for digging but not for jumping.
Habitat
The natural home of the Jerusalem cricket is in the Western U.S. along the Pacific Coast and further south into Mexico.
Drumming
The sound created by the Jerusalem is known as drumming and is produced by hitting its legs against its body.
Predators
The Jerusalem cricket is not classed as a pest in need of control. Its numbers are kept under control by natural predators such as birds and rodents.
