How to Breed Ladybugs

If you are a keen organic gardener, you are interested in naturally controlling the pests that inhabit your garden. One way to do this is to breed a population of ladybugs. These beneficial insects eat the bad guys and help keep your garden healthy.

      Search for a plant that's infested with aphids, and break off a portion. You want draw ladybugs for you to breed, and nothing is more irresistible to ladybugs than aphids.

      Find a plastic box with a lid and some screened airholes.

      Soak a cotton ball in water, and deposit it with the portion of aphid-infested plant in the box.

      Collect ladybugs in the wild and put them in the box. Add more aphid-infested plants for food as well as water-soaked cotton balls as needed.

      Purchase ladybugs, should you not wish to breed ones you have collected. Make sure they have plenty of food and water.
