Buying ants is much easier than going outside and looking for them yourself.

  Find out how many ants the ant-farm manufacturer recommends for the ant farm that you have. Ant farms come in different sizes, and you can even connect some ant farms together via a plastic tube. You would then need enough ants for a good colony dispersed throughout the farms.

  Buy your ants from a company that guarantees that your ants will arrive alive. Their policy should dictate that they will replace any ants that are dead upon arrival.
