Choose a place that is wooded or near a wetland. Fireflies tend to live in areas such as this, as well as under warm and subtropical conditions. They will only appear on warm nights and are rarely seen when the nights are cooler than 70 degrees.
Find a good seat and get ready for the show. Do not worry, you cannot scare them off, but you may have to give them an hour after dark before they start their performance. Some fireflies enjoy synchronizing their lights with other fireflies.
Attempt to catch a firefly in your hand or a ventilated jar. They will not bite. You will be able to see just how bright they can be and what they look like up close. Be sure you let the little insects go when you are finished studying them.
Enjoy the light show. Most summer nights will bring a show like this. If you are lucky to live in a region that has very warm summer nights, you may be able to experience this show more than once.
