Do-It Yourself Pesticide

Pests are a common annoyance for you as a home home gardener or even just as a plant lover, but you do not want to resort to the harsh chemical pesticides that are typically sold over the counter. If you are looking for a more natural solution, or simply a way to perform the task yourself, then you would be well served by making your own pesticide. It can be done, for the most part, with items found around the house.

Things You'll Need

  • Kitchen knife
  • Cutting board
  • 1 garlic bulb
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoon liquid soap
  • 1 quart water
  • Container
  • Fine strainer
  • Funnel
  • Spray bottle

Instructions

    • 1

Mince all food ingredients with the kitchen knife on a cutting board.

    • 2

Add 1 quart of water to a container, and dump the minced food ingredients in to the container. Mix the food ingredients around to make sure all are soaking in the water.

    • 3

Let the mixture sit for one hour.

    • 4

Add 2 tablespoons of liquid soap to the mixture, and mix it around to make sure all ingredients are well dispersed. Wait for any suds from the liquid soap to subside.

    • 5

Set the funnel in the container, and slowly dump the mixed ingredients from the container, in to the strainer, which should be held above the funnel.

    • 6

Secure the lid of the spray bottle. Store the home made pesticide in the fridge when not in use. It should last for one to two weeks if stored in this way.
