Cutting a Fiddle Leaf Fig Top and Replanting

The fiddle leaf fig is a fig tree commonly found in tropical conditions. It can also be grown in a planter pot and is sometimes kept indoors as a house plant. If someone you know already has a fiddle leaf fig, you can snip a branch from the top of that tree to grow your own. The fiddle leaf fig tree is an easy grower and thrives well when planted in a pot or in the ground, where it will grow to a larger height.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 2 inch section off a branch of the fiddle leaf fig. Cut the branch at a diagonal angle and keep any leaves on the branch. You don't need a piece with a fig already sprouted.

    • 2

Choose an area to plant the tree in. You can plant it in the ground in your front yard or use a gardening container, like a planter.

    • 3

Make sure there is plenty of soil where you intend to plant the tree. You may need to purchase extra soil from a garden supply center.

    • 4

Dig a hole in the soil about 6 inches deep. Place the cutting in the hole and cover well with soil.

    • 5

Cover the soil with a slow release fertilizer, as figs are slow eaters.

    • 6

Water regularly, whenever you notice the soil drying up. This may mean daily or weekly, depending on your climate.
