How to: Leaf Impressions on Paint

Painted leaf impressions are a fun way to bring the outdoors inside to the craft table. Every leaf is different, exemplifying how much art there is in the natural world around us. Making leaf impressions with paint is a simple enough project that young hands can do it, with beautiful results.

Things You'll Need

  • Newspaper
  • Variety of fresh leaves
  • Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Heavy, white paper

Instructions

      Spread the newspaper on your work space and cover all available surfaces.

      Lay the leaves flat on the newspaper, veined-side up, and paint each one the color of your choice.

      Carefully lift each painted leaf and apply it to the white paper paint-side down. When you peel the leaf off, there should be a colored impression in its place. Overlap the leaves or create a design of your choice, but do not smear the wet paint as you lay each leaf down.

      Allow the picture to dry completely before you display it.
