How to Make a Hog Snare With Rope

From terrifying black beasts portrayed in wilderness books to majestic wild boars mounted as hunting trophies on walls, wild hogs are a tricky animal to catch. Related to the domesticated pig, the hogs contain a delicious and nutritious meat. Catching this animal can be a useful wilderness survival skill, with set snares being the safest and most surefire way to capture them. Ensure that your local state or municipality allows for this form of hunting before setting any traps.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a 10-foot-long rope, in a straight line, on your work surface. Create a loop in the top of the rope, about 4 inches in diameter.

    • 2

Tie the end of the loop to the main part of the rope to ensure that the loop is secured. Use a double simple knot. Cut off any excess from the knot.

    • 3

Feed the other end of the rope through the loop created. Leave it with a diameter of about 1/2 foot.

    • 4

Place the trap in an area frequented by wild hogs, and ensure that there are fresh hog signs in the area.

    • 5

Attach the snare to a heavy limb or stake that is at least 6 feet to 12 feet in length.
