Things You'll Need
Instructions
Cut a fresh stick from a tree. Sticks from the ground will not work for fishing poles because dry sticks snap when a fish catches a hook. The stick needs to be between 4 and 5 feet long. Inexperienced anglers should begin with a shorter pole then move to a longer pole after practicing.
Cut a length of fishing line which measures 2 feet longer than the stick and tie it to the end of the stick. The line will measure between 6 and 8 feet. Items found around the home which are used for fishing line include kite string, sewing floss and cotton fishing line. Use a common shoe string knot to attach the string to the stick.
Attach a hook to the other end of the fishing line. Use a double knot to keep the hook attached to the line. If the hook has a barb, squeeze the barb closed with a pair of pliers.
Lace a bobber onto the line 2 feet above the hook. Bobbers can be created from any type of plastic which will float on water, such as pieces of plastic milk containers cut into 2 inch squares then tied onto the fishing line. Squeeze a sinker halfway between the hook and the bobber. Common household items used for sinkers are anything metal which will bend around the fishing line, such as metal washers.
