How to Hook a Minnow on a Yo Yo

A yo-yo or mechanical fisher is an effective way to catch a large supply of fish without using multiple fishing poles. It is a device that you tie to the side of the boat, a tree branch, jug or a dock. Bait the line with a live minnow or whatever bait you desire. Once a fish takes the bait, the yo-yo quickly jerks the line snagging the fish on the hook. Keeping your minnow alive for as long as possible is the most effective way to ensure bragging rights on the number of fish you catch.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie the yo-yo onto a tree limb or anywhere else you want it.

    • 2

Pull the yo-yo string out to bait the hook.

    • 3

Grasp the live minnow carefully just behind the gills with your thumb and index finger. This may take several tries as the minnows are slippery and wiggly.

    • 4

Squeeze gently behind the gills. This causes the minnow to open its mouth.

    • 5

Slide the yo-yo hook into the minnow's mouth. Do this as far as you can.

    • 6

Push the pointed end of the hook out the back top of the minnow's head. Try to push the hook out the center of the back. This keeps the minnow's body in direct line with the hook instead of leaving it angling out awkwardly and looking unnatural. Doing this in the correct manner allows the minnow to wiggle while on the hook and to survive for a few hours.

    • 7

Drop the hook and minnow into the water.
