How to Dive From a Pool Deck

The diving technique is used by many swimmers to enter a pool. It is also used in swim meets to start a race. The best surface to dive from is a diving board. Diving boards hang out over the pool and bend so you can easily jump off them. You can also dive off a pool deck. This is a solid surface that is stable when you jump off it. While it is not hard to dive, there is a technique you should follow.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the appropriate spot to dive into the pool from the deck. Ensure the pool is at least 8 feet deep and there are no obstructions or objects in the way of where you will be jumping.

    • 2

Place the tips of your toes two inches away from the edge of the pool. Be careful because the edge of the pool is often smooth and slippery.

    • 3

Bring your arms up straight right next to your head and bend your knees slightly. Hold your elbows close to your ears and your hands straight up in the air with your fingers pointing upward.

    • 4

Tuck your head down slightly. Move your arms with your head so your elbows stay next to your ears. Push against the pool deck with your knees and bring yourself downward and slightly forward.

    • 5

Hold your hands out forward and allow them to hit the water first. Follow your hands into the water with the rest of your body.
