Instructions for Motorola Talkabout Walkie Talkies

Motorola's "Talkabout" line of walkie talkies are designed for use by hikers, campers and other individuals who spend considerable time in outdoor environments. The device's features include a backlight, an optional battery pack, a maximum range of 35 miles and the ability to tune into weather broadcasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association. In order to perform two-way communication with a pair of walkie talkies, users must first tune both devices to the same transmission channel.

      Find the walkie talkie's volume knob, located on the top of the device. Turn the knob all the way to the left to set the device to the "off" setting. Examine the back panel and locate the battery cover. Lift the latch installed on the cover. Remove the cover and install three AA batteries into the battery bay; alternatively, install the NiMH rechargeable battery pack designed for use with your model of device. Reinstall the battery cover.

      Find the "MON" button, located below the lower-right corner of the LCD display. Hold down the button and turn the volume knob to the desired setting; release the "MON" button.

      Press the "MENU" button, located to the left of the "MON" button. Examine the display to determine the currently selected channel. Use the "+" and "-" buttons, located below the "MENU" button, to select the channel you wish to use for communication.

      Find the walkie talkie's microphone, located above the "MENU" button. Position the microphone approximately two to three inches away from your mouth. Hold down one of the two "PTT" buttons, located to the left of the LCD display.

      Speak your message into the microphone, then release the "PTT" button and wait for a response from another walkie talkie user. Continue in this manner for as long as desired; set the volume knob to the "off" setting when you have finished using the device.
