Things You'll Need
Instructions
Navigate to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Services website. Click the "Offices" button at the top left of the page. Click the "State, Territorial and Tribal Fish and Wildlife Offices" button on the "Offices" page.
Locate the contact information for your local State Fish and Game Department. Contact the officers who handle your area and find out your state's protected species of birds. An officer is required to move the bird's nest from the laundry vent if it belongs to a protected species.
Don't attempt to move the bird's nest yourself if your local Fish and Game Department has advised you not to. Proceed with moving the bird's nest only if your local officials direct you to do so.
Encourage any birds in the nest to vacate their home by tapping on the nest with a stick or broom handle. While most birds will be startled and fly away if you tap on their nests, those who don't must be handled by professionals.
Pick up the bird's nest and place it somewhere nearby so that the inhabitants can locate it. A good location is in a tree or bush that's in close proximity to the laundry vent.
Prevent future birds from nesting in your laundry vent by covering it with a sheet of wire mesh.
Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and warm water after handling the bird's nest.
