Things You'll Need
Instructions
Purchase a strong saltwater fishing rod. The correct pole makes all the difference when it comes to ocean fishing because the fish typically are bigger and stronger. As a result, you should purchase a rod that is longer and thicker than usual. This also will help you battle the strong ocean currents. Check to make sure the rod is resistant to salt water. The fishing line for your rod also should be strong. This line should be labeled for ocean fishing use.
Purchase tackle appropriate to the fish you would like to catch. As with freshwater fishing, different kinds of saltwater fish are attracted to certain lures. Decide which ocean fish you are after, then research to choose the correct tackle.
Select sinkers that are hardy and heavy enough for ocean currents. You will be fishing in deep waters, so it is important that the sinkers are made for saltwater fishing.
Slip on some protective gloves before you make your first cast. The gloves should have a nonslip grip to ensure that your fish does not get away. Your hands should be protected when you feel that tug at the end of your line.
