Garden Cosmos
Garden cosmos, otherwise known as Mexican aster, are medium-sized flowering plants native to Mexico. These are very popular as ornamental plants, and their flowers are available in purple, pink and white colors. The annual plants grow from 2-4 feet tall. Daydream cosmos are of the garden variety, and since the flowers attract birds and butterflies, daydreams have become a major part of butterfly gardening.
Sulphur Cosmos
Sulphur cosmos, otherwise known as yellow cosmos, are annual plants. Sulphur cosmos can have grow between 1-7 feet tall, and flowers in yellow, orange and red shades. The plants are native to America, and are now widely seen in Korea and Japan. Different cultivated varieties of yellow cosmos are Crest Red, Ladybird Dwarf Red, Ladybird Dwarf Orange, Ladybird Dwarf Lemon and Ladybird Dwarf Gold.
Ulam Raja
Ulam Raja are annual cosmos and are popular for herbal salads. The meaning of "ulam raja" in Malay is "king of salads." The plants' leaves have anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-aging effects, and are used for medicinal reasons also. Ulam Raja flowers are purple, pink or white.
Chocolate Cosmos
Chocolate cosmos have a very appropriate name because of their chocolate scent and brownish-red, chocolate-colored blooms. Chocolate cosmos were cultivated in 1902 in Mexico. The perennial plants grow to 1-2 feet tall with fleshy roots. The flowers have 6-10 florets and a center of disc florets. The plants flower in a variety of colors, like yellow, white and orange. Chocolate cosmos require either full or partial sun to grow well.
