How to Use a Treestand Harness

A tree stand is an elevated platform attached to a tree; it is commonly used by deer hunters. Hunters wear a tree-stand harness when on the stand to prevent falls and injury. Not all tree stand harnesses are the same. Practice putting on your harness before you need to use it.

Climbing tree-stand
Security cable
Harness cable

Instructions

  Don your tree-stand harness.

  Set the climbing tree-stand against the tree's trunk. Secure the stand to the tree by wrapping the security cable around the trunk. Attaching both ends of the cable to the stand.

  Attach your harness to the stand with the harness cable.

  Stand in front of the tree, next to the climbing tree-stand.

  Hold one end of the safety-harness strap in each of your hands; the strap must encircle the tree. Reach up the tree as far as you comfortably can; secure the safety-harness strap. Pull yourself and the stand up the tree. Repeat this step until you reach the point where you are securing your tree stand.

  Secure the tree stand with the security cable. Remove your harness cable from the tree stand, and secure it to a branch above you.
