Many people love spending time outside, whether that's time spent sunbathing by a pool or hiking up a mountain. However, the joy that can be found in nature can sometimes be marred by an ugly experience with gnats. These pesky creatures can blur eyesight, and even get caught up in a person's eyes, hair and mouth. Some simple steps can be taken to prevent such nuisances, therefore restoring an ideal day outdoors.

  • Bug repellent
  • Mouthwash
  • Fabric softener

      Apply topical bug repellent. These products can be found in drugstores and grocery stores. They usually come in either sprays or lotions that are then massaged into the skin.

      Apply mouthwash to areas of exposed skin. Some people believe gnats and other pests are repelled by this remedy. Soak a paper towel or cotton ball with the mouthwash, and then rub it on the exposed skin.

      Rub exposed areas with a fabric softener sheet. Some people believe gnats and other pests are repelled by this remedy, as well.

      Secure an area with mosquito netting. This only works if you are spending time outside in one particular area rather than walking around.
