Bermuda
Hurricane Danielle was set to have an impact on Bermuda at the end of August, and so a storm warning was issued for the country on August 27. Late that day, and Aug. 28, the storm swerved eastward and away from Bermuda. Despite never making landfall, Danielle caused large waves and turbulent surf in Bermuda.
Eastern United States
Hurricane Danielle stayed well away from the eastern coast of the United States, but still caused large waves and strong rip tides. In Ocean City, Florida, about 250 people had to be rescued from the rip currents caused by Hurricane Danielle. One person was presumed dead as a result of being sucked out to sea. Large swells were experienced as far north as Maryland and New Jersey.
Eastern Canada
In Newfoundland, there were reports of heavy surf and waves that reached as much as 10 feet in height.
After approaching Newfoundland from the south, however, Hurricane Danielle began to track almost completely eastward. It moved away from North America and out in to the Atlantic Ocean. As Hurricane Danielle went east, the effects of the storm on Newfoundland disappeared.
Titanic Wreckage
The Titanic wreckage, which is southeast of the easternmost tip of Newfoundland, was close to the path of Hurricane Danielle. The storm had weakened to category one storm by the time it passed the wreckage site. Still, the researchers were warned in advance the Danielle was coming and called off their work of mapping the wreckage. They had to go to St. John's, Newfoundland for several days to let the storm pass.
