How to Create a Graph on the Effects of Global Warming on the Oceans

Global warming impacts oceans throughout the globe. Effects of ice cap erosion and the release of water locked within ice at certain points throughout the globe are well documented. These effects have a clearly distinguishable effect on sea level. The rate of sea level change is accurately measured at thousands of coastal locations. This data is then analyzed to calculate future changes. You can create a simple graph highlighting these dramatic changes even with little or no prior knowledge of the subject.

Instructions

    • 1

      Navigate to psmsl.org.

    • 2

      Click the "Data" tab.

    • 3

      Click "Obtaining Data" link.

    • 4

Scroll down the page and find the location you want to find the sea level changes for. Click on the location ID highlighted in blue.

    • 5

Click the "Download annual mean sea level data" link under the heading "Tide Gauge Data."

    • 6

Copy and paste the data for each year given into an excel spreadsheet. Ensure the dates are entered into individual boxes and all values are in the correct order.

    • 7

Highlight all the data in the excel spreadsheet and click "Insert" and then on the "Create Graph" tab at the top of the screen. Select the type of graph required.

    • 8

Adapt the graph by double clicking on the relevant part of the graph that you want to change. Add titles.
