DIY Single Plant Greenhouses

A single plant greenhouse can provide a warm, moist environment for starting seeds before planting them outside. It also can be used to teach children about the way seeds grow into plants, enabling them to watch the process in their own home.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty 2-liter soda bottle (clear)
  • Mild soap
  • Knife or scissors
  • Soil
  • Seeds or small plant

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the 2-liter bottle. Use a mild soap and water to clean the inside of the bottle. Be sure to rinse all the soap out.

    • 2

Remove the label and cut the bottle in two. Cut around the bottle about 3 inches from the bottom, keeping the cut as straight as possible.

    • 3

Add soil and seeds. Place a couple of inches of soil in the bottom of the bottle, plant your seeds or small plant and water well.

    • 4

Put the bottle back together. Slide the cut part of the bottle top into the bottom. This will create a good seal, keeping moisture and warmth inside your greenhouse. If necessary, cut a few slits at intervals along the edge of the top portion to assist in the fit.
