How to Spray Paint Your Own Vertigo Camo

Vertigo camouflage is a specific type of camouflage pattern designed and sold by ALS Enterprises. The designers at ALS were charged with changing the way camouflage patterns are crafted, and making an improved camouflage. They began by using the traditional tree and leaf patterns in camouflage, but leaving negative space between them, like they saw in nature. The key to painting a Vertigo camouflage pattern is to make use of this open space, and to paint the natural elements asymmetrically on the surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the can of off-white pray paint 6 to 8 inches from the surface and coat the entire object with paint. Allow to dry for up to an hour. If necessary, coat the object with a second layer of paint and allow to dry.

    • 2

Use masking tape to block off several large triangles on the object. These should be asymmetrical and should cover approximately 60 to 70 percent of the object's surface. Think of these triangles as the area between trees or tree branches.

    • 3

Spread pine needles across the unmasked areas of the object. Spray them with a coating of black paint. Scatter the needles and spray again with the brown paint. There is no need to dry between colors. Rearrange the needles and add the green paint.

    • 4

Remove the pine needles and masking tape. You should see an off-white area of open space and areas of nature-inspired color with some off-white showing through. Look at the object and find any straight lines or large areas of color.

    • 5

Lay a single branch or a handful of pine needles on any straight lines and randomly on about 10 percent of the off-white area. Spray these pine needles lightly with the green and brown paints.

    • 6

Allow the object to dry for 2 to 3 hours before handling.
