When temperatures rise above freezing, snow starts to melt, putting an end to winter fun. Placing snowballs in the freezer can extend their life indefinitely, but snow forts and other snow sculptures are too large for this solution. According to Professor John McClatchey of the University of the Highlands and Islands, silver painted bubble wrap can slow the melting process by protecting snow from sun and precipitation: the silver color of the bubble wrap provides reflectivity, while the plastic shields against moisture.
