How You Make a Tornado in a Jar

Everyone knows how deadly a tornado can be. Tornadoes are rotating funnels of air that extend from a thunderstorm above to the ground below. Tornadoes form when warm air meets with cold air, causing the cold air to rise, creating a funnel or column of wind. But, while real tornadoes can cause extensive damage and injury, you can create your own tornado at home with this simple science experiment. All you need are a few simple household items to create your own tornado in a jar.

Things You'll Need

  • 8 oz. jar with lid
  • Liquid dish soap (clear)
