Environmental Magazines List

Environmental news may be a hot topic now, but the concept is not new. There are numerous environmental magazines currently available. The styles range from humorous takes on serious topics to academic journals. Some of the most popular environmental magazines are "E - The Environmental Magazine," "Grist," "OnEarth" and "Environment."
  1. "E - The Environmental Magazine"

    • "E- The Environmental Magazine" debuted in January 1990 as the nation was still dealing with the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Unlike some of its counterparts, "E" is not affiliated with any type of membership organization. "E" is available in print form and online. The magazine has a wide editorial scope, covering topics such as green cars, biotechnology, the effects of toxins on health, and ecotourism. "E" also includes lifestyle articles on green living and healthy eating.

    "Grist"

    • "Grist," founded in 1999, takes a lighthearted approach to the serious issues of the environment. It has been described by "Time" magazine as "the 'Colbert Report' of climate change, the 'Daily Show' of deforestation, the 'Oprah' of oil dependency -- except with real reporting and analytical journalism." "Grist" covers heavy topics such as climate change, food, environmental protests and green living solutions.

    "OnEarth" Magazine

    • "OnEarth" magazine is affiliated with the Natural Resources Defense Council. It is an award-winning magazine established in 1979. "OnEarth" provides in-depth coverage of environmental topics, including current events. It is available in both print and online formats. OnEarth provides content that is exclusive to each format.

"Environment: Science and Policy for a Sustainable Environment"

    • "Environment: Science and Policy for a Sustainable Environment" is one of the oldest publications in the field of environmental science. It debuted in 1961 with peer-reviewed articles. "Environment" combines the style of an academic journal with the accessibility of popular magazines. This magazine has a sharper focus on public policy than most of its competitors. It also provides information on environmental education programs and conferences.
