How to Report a Dangerous Animal in Los Angeles

Los Angeles has many animal care centers that represent various districts of the city. When you're calling to report a dangerous domestic animal, such as a dog that bites or acts aggressively, you need to contact the center for your district. If it's a wild animal, such as a mountain lion, bobcat, fox or coyote, you need to contact the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services' Wildlife Division.

Instructions

    • 1

Do not attempt to handle, approach or otherwise communicate with the animal.

    • 2

Contact your district's animal care center by telephone. To find your local animal care center you can locate their number in the phone book or through the care center link on the Los Angeles Animal Services' website.

    • 3

Give a description of the animal. Include the animal's size, owner (if this information is known to you), why you think it is dangerous and a detailed location of where the animal is or where you last saw it. The staff at the care center may ask you additional questions. If the animal is near your home, say so. Tell them how to contact you if they are going to need additional information. Although dangerous animals take precedence over many other types of cases, it may take a while for the officer to get to the animal.
