How to Attract & Feed Deer

Deer are usually extremely cautious around humans, so attracting them to you so that you can feed them can be a slow process. However, with the right equipment and a bit of patience, you may succeed in convincing them to trust you. It is important to find deer in their natural habitat, and to make sure that you are as non-threatening a presence as possible. There are a number of methods of attracting deer, as well as a number of foods that deer enjoy.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up a deer feeder in the desired location, and spread corn and acorns around the feeder. Place a water trough nearby to make the area doubly attractive.

    • 2

Spread peanut butter on nearby trees to attract deer to the area, creating a trail for them.

    • 3

Place salt or mineral blocks on the ground around the feeder. (You can purchase these at most hunting shops.) It can take hours or even days for deer to frequent the salt block, so be patient and make sure you are well camouflaged --- and keep still.

Observe the deer and offer them bread and apples when you feel that they might be comfortable with your presence. Be warned that they may never feel comfortable taking food from your hand; you may have to place the food nearby the feeder and watch from afar.
