Snow Leopards
Snow leopards normally prey on defenseless animals such as sheep, hares and partridges. Given the opportunity, a snow leopard will attempt to attack and kill an aging or weak adult panda. Baby pandas are also at risk from this strong and stealthy Central Asian feline, but a snow leopard would not dare attack a cub in the presence of its healthy, highly protective mother.
Jackals
Jackals are unlikely to attack a healthy adult, preferring to target the young or weak. They have a particularly brutal method of attack. According to the Pandas Live On website, this unique hunting skill involves climbing onto a panda's back, gouging out its eyes and then pulling out the blinded panda's intestines.
Wild Dogs
Packs of wild dogs, through sheer numbers alone, can harass an adult panda. However, they only attack dying adults or exposed and defenseless cubs.
Asian Golden Cats
The Asian golden cat typically preys upon small mammals, reptiles and birds, but is capable of killing sheep, goats and buffalo calves. It will steal unattended baby pandas if the opportunity arises, but would never attack an adult panda.
Yellow-throated Marten
The yellow-throated marten is a member of the weasel family. Like the Asian golden cat, the carnivorous yellow-throated marten poses a purely opportunistic threat to the panda. It is no match for an adult or even a young panda, but it would happily run off with an undefended and helpless newborn cub.
Bamboo Rats
Bamboo rats pose an indirect threat to the panda. They burrow underground to eat the roots of the bamboo, killing the plant in the process, says the China.org.cn website. This robs the panda of its most vital food supply.
Humans
Humans are the greatest threat to pandas, according to the World Wildlife Fund. Everyday human actions have contributed greatly to the panda's endangered status. Agricultural processes, logging, urban expansion and hydropower developments within the panda's natural habitat deprive the panda of much needed space and resources. Poaching and the illegal trade of panda furs further highlights humanity's role as the greatest enemy of the magnificent panda.
