How to Form a Rainbow at Home

A rainbow is created by droplets of water in the atmosphere of the earth that create the optical illusion of a multi-colored semi-circle in the sky. It's possible to create your own form of rainbow in the comfort of your own home using basic items including a glass of water, a flash light, and some masking tape.

Things You'll Need

Torch
Masking tape
Drinking glass
A4 sheet of white paper

Instructions

  Place two strips of masking tape on the end of the flashlight, leaving a 0.3-cm-wide slit down the middle for the light to shine out of.

  Fill a glass to the top with water and place it on the edge of a table or counter.

  Place an A4 sheet of white paper on the floor next to the table or counter.

  Shine the flashlight's beam through the surface of the water in the glass and out of one side so the beam is directed onto the white paper below on the floor. A rainbow effect is created on the white paper.
