How to Write to Congress to Save the Polar Bears

Because of changes in our planet's climate, polar bears may be in danger of becoming extinct within the next century. Even though the white giants are already on the endangered species list, their habitat also must be protected to save the species, and climate change threatens that habitat. You can write to your congressmen and congresswomen and urge them to do what they can to address the issues of global climate change and saving the polar bear.

Instructions

    • 1

Whether you choose to send your message via e-mail or the U.S. Postal Service, find the correct address for your members of Congress. Some websites list members of the United States Congress by state and district, and provide mailing addresses as well as e-mail addresses. See the Resources section of this article.

    • 2

Write a letter using your own words to tell your congressperson about the plight of the polar bears and what you want him or her to do. Letters and e-mails that are verbatim copies of hundreds of others are instantly discarded; personalize your letter with your own unique voice.

    • 3

Stay calm and rational. Be polite, cite facts, and use professional business language to convey your conservation message. Cursing or calling your congressperson rude or vulgar names will not help save the polar bears.

    • 4

Whether you e-mail the letter or send it via the postal service, send the letter once you've polished it and made sure it says exactly what you want it to say.
