How to Mix a Water & Sugar Solution for Hummingbirds

Hanging a hummingbird feeder in your yard could help save the species! This can bring hours of entertainment for humans and much-needed food for the hummingbird. Hummingbirds eat frequently, and they consume a large quantity, preferring sap, pollen, nectar and bugs. You can replicate the first three items by providing a water-and-sugar solution in your hummingbird feeder.

Things You'll Need

• 1 quart pan
• Spoon
• Funnel
• 4 cups water
• 1 cup sugar

     Heat 4 cups water to boiling in a quart-sized pan.

     Add 1 cup sugar to boiling water.

     Stir until sugar is dissolved.

   • 4

     Turn off heat and allow mixture to cool.

     Use a funnel to pour cooled mixture into a clean hummingbird feeder. Reassemble the feeder and hang outdoors.
