Take the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's education course. The course will teach hunters between the ages of 16 and 35 all the basics for hunting safely and legally in Oklahoma. A list of places that offer the education course is provided on the ODWC website. All across Oklahoma, 350 courses are held annually. Use the list of course facilities to find the location nearest to you.
Apply for the Harvest Information Program if you are trying to hunt birds on public land in Oklahoma. If you are a hunter between the ages of 16 and 65, this permit is free of charge. The HIP permit is only necessary for individuals interested in hunting birds. For any other animals, a regular permit is all that is needed.
Apply for your Oklahoma hunting license. You can purchase a license at one of 700 retailers located throughout the state, or directly through the ODWC website. You can also call the Department of Wildlife Convention directly at (405) 521-3852. A license that allows you to hunt costs $42 annually for residents of Oklahoma. For non-residents, the cost is $142. Licenses can also be purchased for smaller time frames if you are interested in week-long permits or day passes. These are less expensive, depending on the time frame.
Locate the area you where you are interested in hunting, and verify that it is within the designated public hunting grounds.
Verify that the date you are interested in hunting is within the designated hunting season for the state. Hunting season typically runs from the end of February all the way through the end of December.
