Identification
Turfgrasses are comprised of a popular and durable group of grasses. They include tall and fine fescues, Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass. These grasses are then normally mixed in various combinations for a healthier grass coverage.
Types
Each type of turfgrass boasts its strengths. Tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass strive well under full sun exposure. Those areas with a lot of foot traffic, like soccer fields, can use a mixture of perennial grass and Kentucky bluegrass. Additionally, fine fescue works well when mixed with the other grasses to withstand shady areas.
Significance
Mixing a varied amount of differing types of grasses allows the turfgrass to resist natural enemies, such as insect infestations and disease. Growing a healthy turfgrass limits the amount of time and care needed for maintenance, saving money overall.
