Preparation
The most important aspect of survival is being prepared in advance for the trip. Pack a backpack with the essentials that you'll need to survive. Bring along a Swiss army knife, dried foods, rope and a compass.
Travel
Keep your journey moving on durable surfaces. Travel during the day so you can see where you're going and you can better scout possible camp grounds. Use your compass and the flow of the Suwannee River to help navigate. If you get lost, stop. Stop, think, observe and plan. You might want to wait right where you are until park rangers or wildlife refuge staff find you. Because you've registered to enter the park, they will come looking for you.
Wildlife
Avoid direct contact with the wildlife. Protect your food and keep it hidden from the Florida black bear, bobcat and raccoons who are all scavengers and opportunistic eaters who can feed on pretty much anything.
Shelter
Overnight camping is only allowed in designated spots of the Okefenokee Swamp. If you're lost and can't make it back, search for durable surfaces to make your campgrounds. Create a swamp bed to give yourself an area to rest. Find a cluster of trees close enough together that you can tie limps together and form the frame of a bed. Cover the frame with leaves. Keep the frame high enough off the ground so if the water rises while you're sleeping, you won't wake up to find yourself soaked and wet.
