Things You'll Need
Instructions
Contact your local trash pickup business to find out more information about recycling in your community. Many trash collectors have recycling programs and can either pick up recyclables from you regularly or inform you of local donation centers where you can drop them off.
Share this information with your friends and neighbors.
Buy at least one trash bin to be used inside your home for recycling only. If your trash collector gathers your recyclables regularly from one big bin and sorts them at a facility, one indoor bin is all you will need in your home. Empty your indoor bin regularly into the outdoor recycling bin supplied by the trash collector. If you have to sort the items yourself, get one bin for each type of recyclable, such as paper, glass, plastic and metal.
Place your new indoor recycling bin next to your regular trash can to make recycling easier. If you have more than one bin, place others someplace easily accessible so you won't be tempted to throw items away in a nearby trash can instead of recycling them.
Instead of throwing away items made of plastic, glass, aluminum and paper, toss them into the recycle bin. Quickly rinse bottles and cans if they have lots of food or liquid stuck in them before throwing them into their designated bins.
Tell friends and neighbors how easy recycling is after doing it for several weeks. Explain how easy it is and how much less waste you produce. Making small changes in your community inspires others to do the same, which can lead to big changes in counties, states and countries.
